4Come on Polar, finish this product as it should be and make it a winner
By Monteiro
It looks like Polar is finally finding its way back to this segment. In the past years I have used many Polar units but honestly I totally abandoned them after my last one RS800cx gave me all sorts of headaches. After that I tried the Garmin 910XT which is a nice product but full of bugs as usual for a Garmin product and not as developed as Polar products in terms of HRV records and analysis The new Polar V800 has great potential to take this market again but its still early to say whether they will develop the product nicely or if they will leave it half-baked as most of the Garmin products. It is a shame that many companies nowadays are releasing products without finishing them or even correcting some silly flaws, like Garmin is doing with the Edge series, they are even releasing new models leaving behind a pile of bugs and flaws from previous models. I am really expecting Polar to have a different mentality this time with the V800Things I really like:1. Quality built2. Gorilla glass3. Screen definition and clarity (by far the best in the market)4. Polar tests (Orthostatic, Jump, Fitness, R-R…)5. Independent timer/chronograph (looks basic but most previous models didn’t have)6. HRM works in water (only with Polar H7 but it works)7. Activity tracker + Recovery status (my favorite feature, just make sure you set correctly your Training Background in Physical settings otherwise this will work inaccurately)8. Back-light is perfect9. Vibration alerts10. Watch faces are clean and nice (analog watch, big numbers, regular)11. Bluetooth smart to connect most smart sensors in the market12. The charging cable is sleek and if you don’t use the band too tight you can even charge/upload activity to your PC without removing the watch from the wrist13. Heart-touch feature is back and tap features is also very useful when running or cycling and you can configure to back-light or change pagesThings I don’t like:1. Silicon band is not practical, you have to pass the band twice in the clasp and then the final ring is too short and the band doesn’t go in easily, makes a very simple thing a pain. It sounds silly but it really sucks when I have to put it in and out the bike/wrist on my every day commute morning and evening… I have to do this at least 4-6 times a day2. No proper bike mount or quick release style mount for the same reason above3. Connectivity with Android phone still doesn’t exist4. Flow App for Android is delayed and everything has to be moved to PC by cable6. Activity tracker doesn’t show the interesting data you want to see, steps count, km walked or split calorie just a progress bar not really motivating7. HRV data cannot be used with 3rd party sensors like Wahoo or Viiiiva although these can provide HRV signal, the v800 cannot read, so you are trapped to Polar H7 only if you want to make use of Recovery status and all Polar tests using the HRM strap8. Speed and cadence sensor from Polar are expensive and disposable, you cannot replace battery so buy a combo from a 3rd partyThings it should do:1. Live tracking (the hardware is capable)2. SMS and call info when connected to your phone (hardware is capable and there is no rocket science here)3. Training plan on the watch or from Flow App, so far nothing4. Targets/achievements5. Pre-defined workouts and manual workoutOverall I am happy with the product and believing Polar will listen to the customers expectation and act within the possibilities to add some features which can make this watch a real winner.

5A wrist watch a wrist computer great device !
By C. A. Bayko
I am not a triathlete. I am a more mature adult, just turned 66. I used to be very active; running, swimming and long-distance cycling. Across 13 +years as traveling as a HIT consultant, i gained 50 unwanted pounds, and had been relatively inactive for 11 years. Last October, i made a change and retuned to activity, diet and sleep management. Currently I have lost 40 pounds and have 10 to go. Last October I started using the Basis B1 Band, and a month ago added in the Withing's Pulse. I realized that after 8 months, I have progressed back to the point, that just knowing I am living a Healthy Lifestyle, is not enough. I am preparing for an 8K, that I ran last in 2000. I also have been Diagnosed with Osteoarthritis of my Left knee, and am employing cross training.I have several older Polar devices and HR monitors; and realizing that there are multiple variables that I must take into account, I started looking for something that could track all my activities, outside, in the Gym, and across my daily life 24/7. I was excited to learn about the V800, and ordered it immediately, along with the Stride Sensor. The single device, replaces my other 2 devices, and the IOS app and Web apps are EXACTLY what I was looking for. The most pertinent information is in front of me; and the ability to create my own activities, and incorporate everything in a plan /Diary makes these applications, what I was looking for.As for the V800, though I have only had it a short time; I am astounded. The fit and finish is First Class, the screen is beautiful, readable; and the Gorilla glass is essential to protect my investment and make me not worry about the device. The setup is smooth, placement of buttons and logic in using them easy and efficient. So far the ability to track my activities, synchronize, and give me the information I am looking for is A+. The fit of the band, and weight of the watch is excellent; and this will work as my 24/7 life style monitor, training device, coach and business / personal watch.Based on my experience, key factors in my decision, for this expensive device were:Gorilla GlassUpgrade-ability24/7 tracking including sleepHigh-end Bluetooth Power ManagementHR monitoring including while swimming Stride sensor to monitor activities in the gym Real Altitude /Barometric Pressure Monitoring Accurate Calorie countingRecovery CoachingExcept for desiring to have more detailed information on using all its’ features, I am so glad to own this product, and believe it will take my new active lifestyle to the next level. Thank you!Chip BaykoPS the watch is extremely lightweight I hardly know it's thereIn the only thing that's been successful in monitoring my activity is wearing something 24 sevenAnd not having to worry about it wearing in the shower and allTo think that I have that 24 seven activity monitor and a powerful wrist computer to monitor training absolutely is phenomenalAlso unlike all of the product's that when you see pictures of their screen you know it's a photo when it's not how it really looks in Brightlight the screen you see all the pictures of is how it really looks in Brightlight again I real winner

5Close to Perfect and getting better ...
By J. Schmuecker
After about 3 months with the V800, it's time for me to update my review. I'm a frequent runner but do not follow a fixed training plan. For my purposes the V800 is very good and by far the best GPS/HRM that I own. Miles ahead of the Garmin 910XT, the various Garmins I owned or older Polar models. In short here are the V800's features I am most impressed with:- Great usability as an everyday watch, great display, long battery life, features such as alarm for weekdays only, vibration, ...- Easily readable display while running- Fast pickup time for satellites, though it does tell you to stand still which I usually ignore- Mobile App is great for a quick overview or motivational boost- Flow is getting better with every release- Polar promised to deliver connectivity to Strava in September and so they did. This gives me a lot of confidence that they will continue developing this product.- Integration of the activity monitorThe only downside is the incompatibility of the V800 with Ant+ infrastructure, navigation, speed and cadence on the bike. So please Polar people create some way to use the V800 with Ant+ or other industry standards. Until then, I will continue to use my Garmin Edge with speed and cadence and have my heartrate on the V800.P.S.: my watch took on some water recently. I got a replacement from Polar in a couple of days, so let's hope it was just a fluke and it's not a general problem with the proofing.
